Set up your account, find your first companion, send your first message.
From the Discover tab, scroll the curated companions and tap one whose vibe sounds right. You're chatting in seconds. To build your own from scratch, tap the + button at the top of Discover — you'll pick a name, voice style, default language, and a relationship label (friend, mentor, partner, etc.).
Tap any companion card. The conversation opens with a hand-written opener; reply in the message bar at the bottom. Each companion has their own conversation thread that remembers what you've talked about.
Small focused experiences you can run inside any conversation — trivia, tarot readings, a language-practice lesson, a guided diary entry, and more. Tap the activity icon (the little square grid) in the chat header to browse them. Most are free; some are Pro.
Settings → scroll to Language and pick from the list. The change applies immediately to the whole app and to the language your companions write in by default — though you can change a companion's spoken languages individually from its profile.
Companions & chat
How companions behave, remember, and respond — and how to shape them.
Each message goes to a large language model. Your companion's personality — voice, history with you, recent messages, your captured memories — is sent as context. The model reads it and writes a reply that fits. We use a curated mix of AI model providers and route each request to the best fit for the companion type and your account tier; you don't have to choose between them.
After each message exchange, a background process scans for things worth remembering — your name, hobbies, what you're working on, important dates, anything you've shared about yourself. These memories are stored per-companion and surface in the system prompt of future messages. You can see and edit them at /memories.
Long conversations hit a context-window limit (we keep the most recent ~50 messages verbatim, plus a summary of older threads). If something was casually mentioned weeks ago and never re-mentioned, it may not survive the summary. The fix: add it as a memory manually at /memories so it persists.
Yes — on a companion you created yourself. Tap the companion's avatar in the chat header → Edit. You can change name, relationship label, voice style, spoken languages, and the topics they're allowed to discuss. Built-in companions can't be edited, but you can always create a new one with your preferred shape.
Yes — each companion has a list of spoken languages. Set them when you create the companion, or edit later via the companion's profile. If they speak more than one, they'll match the language you write in.
Pro companions can send a gentle nudge if you haven't talked in 4–24 hours, capped at once per 8 hours. The message lands in the conversation thread, not as a push notification, unless you've enabled push. Turn this off per-companion from its profile → Proactive messages.
Account & billing
Pro, cancellations, refunds, language and profile changes.
Unlimited daily messages, access to Pro companions, Pro-only activities, proactive nudges, and longer-form memory. Bondi Pro is available on the Bondi website — subscribe there, then sign in on any device to use it.
You can cancel anytime from your account on the Bondi website, where you can also change your card or download invoices. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you keep Pro until then.
We refund within 14 days of the original charge if you've barely used the app, no questions. Open a ticket from Help → Contact and include the email on your Stripe receipt. Annual-plan refunds beyond 14 days are pro-rated minus the months used.
Right now email changes need to go through support — open a ticket from Help → Contact with the new address. We're building self-serve email change for a future release. Your password and login flow stay the same; only the address moves.
Settings → Account → Delete account. Confirms via a typed phrase. Your account is deactivated immediately (login disabled) and your personal data is deleted; some conversation data may be kept in anonymised form for up to 24 months, as described in our privacy policy. You can request earlier erasure at any time, and active subscriptions are cancelled automatically.
Privacy & safety
Your data, what we store, what we don't, and how to leave.
Your conversations live in your account and we don't sell your data to advertisers. Your messages are used to generate replies and the memories your companion keeps — and you can read, edit, export or delete all of it at any time. Full details at /privacy.
Your conversations stay in your Bondi account. To generate replies, messages pass through our AI model providers via secure APIs; those providers have their own limited retention policies under the API terms we use. Access by our team is restricted to narrow cases such as safety reviews or legal obligations, as described at /privacy.
Your memories — the long-term facts your companion remembers about you — live in your account, and sensitive ones are stored encrypted. You stay in control: view, edit or delete any memory at any time from the Memories page.
Yes. Settings → Account → Export data. We package every message, memory, Bondi, and account record into a JSON file you can download. Useful before deleting your account, or just for your records.
Open the conversation, tap the companion's name in the header, scroll to Delete conversation. This wipes the messages and the companion's memories of you. The companion itself stays — you can start a fresh thread with them later if you want.
Bondi is 18+. The Terms require you to confirm you're an adult on signup. Some companion categories (specifically those flagged 18+) are gated behind an additional age confirmation. If a child has accidentally created an account, contact us at Help → Contact and we'll delete it.
Troubleshooting
When something isn't working: sign-in, messages, notifications.
First check the email is exactly as you signed up — typos in the domain are the most common cause. If you've forgotten the password, tap Forgot password on the login screen for a reset link. If the reset email doesn't arrive in 5 minutes, check spam, then contact us with the address you used.
Most likely your connection dropped — check the small wifi indicator at the top of the screen. If you're online and still stuck, try fully quitting the app and reopening. Persistent failures are usually an outage on our side; check the in-app status banner or our status page (if a banner's there, we already know).
Reply time depends on the model behind your companion — Pro companions use higher-quality models and typically respond in 2–8 seconds. Replies over 15 seconds usually mean the model provider is rate-limited or having a brief outage. If it's consistent across multiple companions, please report it via Help → Contact and we'll dig in.
Two layers to check. Inside Bondi: Settings → Notifications → confirm Push notifications is ON. In your device settings: search for Bondi → confirm Notifications are allowed at the OS level. On iOS, also confirm the home-screen install (Bondi is a PWA — notifications only work after Add to Home Screen).
The PWA service worker can hold a stale build. Force a refresh: in mobile Safari, tap the Aa button → Website settings → reload without cache. On desktop, hard-refresh with ⌘+Shift+R (Mac) or Ctrl+F5 (Windows). As a nuclear option, remove the app from your home screen and re-add it.
Still stuck?
Open a ticket and we'll reply by email — usually within a day.
